The working principle of zinc-nickel battery is electrochemical reaction. This process can be represented by the following chemical equation:
Positive electrode reaction: Ni(OH)2 H2O e- → NiOOH OH-
Negative electrode reaction: Zn 2OH- → Zn(OH)2 2e-
One of the advantages of nickel-zinc batteries is their high energy density. This means that it can provide more energy storage in the same volume or mass, compared to other rechargeable batteries, such as nickel-cadmium batteries and lead-acid batteries, zinc-nickel batteries have higher energy density.
