On November 6, 2025, the International Telecommunication Union (ITU-T SG5) officially approved the project “Water-based Zinc-based Battery Systems for Communication Base Stations” in Geneva. This marks the official inclusion of China-led green energy storage technology into the global communications standards system. This not only highlights the strategic importance of aqueous zinc-based batteries in the global energy transition, opening a new era for aqueous zinc-based batteries in communications energy storage, but also injects new momentum into the global low-carbon transition with “Chinese wisdom,” signaling that communications energy storage technology has entered a new stage of global development.
